Action News: Update on Escape from New York remake
Several months ago Silver Pictures and StudioCanal came out and said that they were working on a remake to the classic John Carpenter/Kurt Russell film Escape from New York. Now it seems that the wheels are yet again turning and we may finally have some more information on the future project.
STARLOG has learned that the remake may be “more team-based, as Snake Plissken traverses through a treacherous New York landscape with a rogues gallery of criminals who look to leave the island-turned-prison in exchange for the rescue of the captured U.S. President.”
In the early stages it was always said that this remake would be inspired by the Batman: Arkham video games and you can totally see that in the description above. The STARLOG source also has a description of several of the characters:
“Plissken’s team consists of Mina, a warzone journalist framed for murder and living in the shadows of New York as a scavenger; Cabbie, a schizophrenic travel guide who serves as comic relief; Gareth, the last surviving member of the President’s security detail who harbors a dangerous secret; and The Brain, Plissken’s former partner-in-crime who left him to die after a botched robbery.”
This description doesn’t excite me personally as I have always loved the Snake Plissken character and I don’t see the need for a bunch of co-stars who fill the same lame-ass stereotypes that every action movie seems to have. The beauty of Snake is that he never really cared about anyone or anything, so hopefully if he does work with these people, he ends the movie all alone.
The source goes on to say that Pacific Rim’s Charlie Hunnam, The Walking Dead’s Jon Bernthal, and Dan Stevens from The Guest are the three main contenders as of now. There is no official word from the studios on a director yet for the film but stay tuned to Bulletproofaction.com for all your action news!
