Throwback Thursday: Point Break
Point Break is one of the greatest action movies ever made, there I said it. Its greatness lies in the fact that even in the scenes where there is no “action”, per se, there is still a huge amount of intensity just with the “will they, won’t they” find out about Johnny Utah being undercover. Couple that with the awesomeness of the skydiving/surfing scenes and you’ve got yourself one seriously rad movie. The fact that Patrick Swayze was out there doing his own stunts makes me love that guy even more. Say what you will about Keanu as an undercover FBI agent but if he were one, would there have ever been a better option to put into the undercover role of a surfer dude? I think the hardest thing to believe about Utah is that he’s supposed to be from Columbus, OH. The supporting cast is amazing too. Give me some Gary Busey, Vincent Klyn, the Red Hot Chili Peppers, and Lori Petty and I’m a happy guy. Kathryn Bigelow really showed she had some big balls when she directed this. I’ll take this action packed thrill ride over any of that political bull-crap she makes any day.
