Throwback Thursday: Rocky 4
Next week will mark the 29th anniversary of Sylvester Stallone delivering a powerful blow to Communism and the Soviet Union. In my opinion Stallone deserves a national holiday or school named after him for his efforts during the Cold War. Between this movie and the Rambo franchise, Stallone contributed way more than any of the dirty politicians in office ever did. Rocky 4 is my favorite of the Rocky movies. I don’t necessarily think it’s the best of the series (it’s not), but it’s just so damn fun that I can’t help but watch it every time AMC plays it. Another fun fact, my son was born while a Rocky Marathon played on the TV in the hospital room….beat that.
Also there’s this:
While shooting the film Stallone wanted the final fight between himself and Lundgren’s Drago to look more real so he told Dolph that they should hit each other for real. They did three takes of Lundgren pounding away at Stallone’s ribs before Sly started feeling a burning sensation (not like that). Later that night, Stallone was having trouble breathing and they found that his blood pressure was over 200 and he had to be flown on a low-altitude flight to a hospital in Santa Monica where he was in the ICU for 8 days. Lundgren had hit him so hard that his heart had slammed against his breastbone and started to swell, cutting off the oxygen to his body. Bad…Ass.
