Throwback Thursday: Stone Cold Steve Austin
Steve Austin is a Beer chuggin’, middle finger wavin’, hell raisin’, sonofabitch who re-wrote a biblical verse and made the WWE truckloads of money during the Attitude Era in the late 1990’s. He’s top 3 all-time as the greatest professional wrestler of all time and unlike that geriatric hotdog Hulk Hogan, Austin retired from wrestling with enough wits and ability and is pumping out awesome action movies as we speak. God love ‘em.
Austin was truly “old school” in wrestling terms; traveling around the world for many years before finding Mega-success with the WWE.
Many of the great Pro Wrestlers are polarizing; “Hogan couldn’t work”, “Flair didn’t do it in the WWE”, “Bret didn’t have the mic skills”, but most everyone can agree that Stone Cold had “it”. The man took a shitty gimmick like The Ringmaster and used it to get his foot in the door before exploding with his Stone Cold persona.
The aforementioned Ringmaster
Like several other former professional wrestlers, Austin has taken his talents to Hollywood and has produced some pretty damn exciting films over the past several years. I know for a fact that a few of them are currently streaming on Netflix and for those in the know he hosts an awesome podcast which you can check out on iTunes for free. Much like my partner Chris the Brain, Austin has had an impact on me not only in the wrestling ring but also in the way that I drink beer.
So on this day, his birthday, allow me to send out a heart-felt Hell Yeah!
It’s called fashion people.
I’ll drink to that…
