Throwback Thursday: Steve James
On this day in 1952, the late, great Steve James was born. I became a fan of James in the mid-80’s as he pumped out great action movies like American Ninja, The Delta Force, American Ninja 2, Avenging Force, and Hero and the Terror. While James most often portrayed the sidekick to the main stars like Michael Dudikoff and Chuck Norris, you would never know it by how charismatic and likeable Steve was. He had a screen presence that commanded you to not only root for him but to actually like him. It always seemed like he was having so much fun on set and I think that it really led to some great scenes; especially his fight scenes. James was a practitioner of Tiger Claw Kung Fu and a huge fan of Jackie Chan. He always said that Bruce Lee was a big influence on his career but after seeing Jackie Chan he became somewhat of a Chan convert. James most definitely impacted my love of action movies as a kid and I’ll be the first to say that he was taken from this Earth far too soon, but I’m thankful for each and every film he made. I think I can speak for my comrades here at Bulletproof Action in saying that he is and will always be a favorite of ours. We salute you Steve. Happy Birthday.
Filming an early confrontation with Dudikoff in American Ninja.
Too much Awesomeness!
Oiled up and ready to rock that M60.
It takes a real man to pull off that look.
Rarely could a shirt withstand a sudden flex from James.
