Scene of the Week: Shogun Assassin
This week’s Scene of the Week isn’t a scene at all but instead a trailer for a film that came out way back in 1980 called Shogun Assassin. Normally I wouldn’t tout a film like this because really it isn’t a film at all, but instead a mish mash of multiple films in the Lone Wolf and Cub series but this trailer (despite showing way too much) is insanely awesome and it’s a great way to introduce to the crazy sword-wielding badass that is Ogami Itto.
You can watch Shogun Assassin if you want to but I would recommend you check out the actual films that it based off of instead. That means you need to start with Lone Wolf and Cub: Sword of Vengeance. If that doesn’t sound like and awesome movie then I don’t know what does. You’ll immediately see where a bunch of recent and current directors got inspiration from as the blades are swift, the blood spurts are out of control, and Itto is as stone cold a killer as a pissed-off Charlie Bronson. I doubt that you’ll find a series with as much blood spraying, ninja-killing action as this one without delving deep into a week-long dream I had a couple of months ago. Seriously, I faced off against hordes of ninjas and barely escaped with my life; it was epic….
You can check out Shogun Assassin and get a taste of the amazing and unbelievable killing power of Ogami Itto before you watch the original six films (yup six!) and if you’re one of those people who can’t stand to read the subtitles of a film then you’ll be happy to know that this one is in dubbed English for your viewing pleasure. Be sure to shoot me a message on Twitter and let me know what you thought of the film and how you’ll like to repay my kindness in dollars or money orders. Have a happy Father’s Day to all you Dads out there, and happy ninja killing to you all.
