Scene of the Week: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (1990)
For the past few months I have been pouring through the earlier seasons of the new animated Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles show with my young son. There is no greater responsibility for a father than to pass down all of the amazing lessons I learned from watching movies and shows about ninjas as a kid. Especially lessons involving fighting crime and taking down the evil Foot Clan!
I’m not talking about that new abomination of a Turtles film starring Megan Fox, this one involves a Foot Clan that isn’t dressed like militant terrorists and a Shredder who isn’t straight out of an early 90’s Image comic book.
The fight scene is fun, involves actual martial arts instead of a bunch of guys wearing CGI suits, and the Turtles don’t look like they came straight out of the Hare’s nightmares. I’ve talked about my disgust for the remake once before, so I won’t get into that, but the awesomeness of the original Turtles flick looms much larger in my memory banks than any Michael Bay trash ever will.
A special shout out to Elias Koteas for the save!
