Scene of the Week: Tekken
Back in the early 1990’s, movies based on video games were still a pretty novel concept and would always be cause for chatter amongst the movie going public. It was not uncommon to hear movie fans ask things like how in the world is Hollywood going to make a feature length film about Mario and Luigi? Or the more important question, that still stands to this day, why hasn’t anyone made a feature length film based on The Legend of Zelda?
But as time went on, movies based on video games became more or more frequent and instead of creating a buzz like they once did, many video game based films slipped under the radar. That was the case for me with 2010’s Tekken, a movie that followed in the footsteps of two other popular fighting games turned movie, Street Fighter and Mortal Kombat.
John Foo plays the protagonist Jin Kazama. Kazama witnesses the death of his mother at the hands of the heartless corporation known as Tekken and he is out for revenge. Kazama manages to enter himself into the dangerous (and often deadly) combat tournament sponsored by the Tekken corporation known as Iron Fist. This week’s Scene of the Week will take a look at the epic finals of the Iron Fist tournament between Jin Kazama and the best the Iron Fist has to offer Bryan Fury, played by martial artist and action star extraordinaire, Gary Daniels.
