Bullet Points: Cry Havoc
If there is a new Robert Bronzi movie, you can bet money the staff at Bulletproof Action will be one of the first sites to review it. Cry Havoc is now out on digital, and I have my trusty bullet points to see if it is worth your time.
- The Plot: A serial killer stalks half naked women in the woods. At the same time, Robert Bronzi plays a detective searching for his missing daughter. We also have a very ambitious reporter who just scored the interview of her lifetime: A man on the FBI’s Most Wanted List known only as The Voyeur. What could go wrong?
- Bronzi, Baby: Robert Bronzi is living a dream life. Who would not want to be Charles Bronson’s doppelgänger? Director Rene Perez knows how to use Bronzi. We see Bronzi smoking a tobacco pipe like he is Sherlock Holmes, looking through binoculars like a stone cold pimp, dialing a phone without talking, running and shooting guns. There is almost 25 minutes of runtime before Bronzi speaks. You will have to wait about 45 minutes for him to get into a gunfight and another 10 minutes before you see him riding a Harley motorcycle like a boss. Bronzi speaks loudest with his actions and not his words. If you are a fan, this is the Bronzi you pay to see.
- Havoc: Havoc is the serial killer who looks like Leatherface’s 4th cousin by marriage. He wears barbed wire around his face. He is also scared of boobs, because every single time he sees boobs, he looks like a scared pussycat. Havoc loves running in the woods, while chasing his next victim. J.D. Angstadt brings Havoc to life. This man deserves more work. He could easily be the next Kane Hodder. In case you didn’t know, this is the 4th film to feature Havoc. He is also known as Prisoner: AYO-886. Havoc is a very underrated slasher killer.
- The Notorious Rene Perez: Cry Havoc is Rene Perez’s most complete slasher film. Sure, a lot of the movie is the rinse-and-repeat plot I’ve seen from the previous films in the series, but the practical effects are solid, the music fits the film and the pace of the movie is on point. Rene is one of those filmmakers who do it all. He writes, directs, edits and films his movies. He also cast his female leads very well. Throughout the series, there’s been numerous beautiful women as potential victims for Havoc. Plus, almost every single one of them gets naked.
- The Voyeur and The Reporter: There is a very important scene if you are a fan of the series. It features Richard Tyson (The Voyeur) and Emily Sweet (The Reporter). This scene gives us some background on Havoc. One of the things missing from this series is why Richard Tyson likes to watch and why Havoc kills. Emily Sweet is a good actress. I also believe she has the most screen time of any of the actors. Plus, she looks badass swinging an axe. She’s my MVP.
- Have you seen this girl: If you want to play a drinking game, take a shot every time Bronzi says “Have you seen this girl.” I’m not responsible if you can’t hold your liquor. We also get to witness Bronzi in a fistfight against Havoc. You need to see it to believe it.
Fans of Robert Bronzi, Rene Perez and slasher films should find Cry Havoc in the middle of their wheelhouse. Buy with confidence, if you are a fan.
Before I go, here’s some Bonus Bullet Points:
- The Other 3: Playing with Dolls, Playing with Dolls: Bloodlust and Playing with Dolls: Havoc, in case you want to see the other films in the series.
- Practical Gun Play: Props to Rene Perez for not using CGI blood with the gunfights. That’s an improvement I hope he continues to use in his films.
