Scene of the Week: Ninja in the Dragon’s Den
For those of you out there that have never seen 1982’s Ninja in the Dragon’s Den, it is a movie that I can not recommend enough. Directed by Corey Yuen (No Retreat, No Surrender 2) and starring Conan Lee (Eliminators) and Hiroyuki Sanada (47 Ronin), Ninja in the Dragon’s Den was a sign of things to come for Ng See Yuen’s Seasonal Film Corporation. The film is credited for popularising the ninja genre in Hong Kong and it also did well in the Japanese market… proving Seasonal Films productions did not have to be limited to the Hong Kong audience. A few years later, Seasonal Films would begin making films for the American audience, starting with 1986’s No Retreat, No Surrender.
This week’s Scene of the Week takes a look back at one of the most impressive fight scenes I have ever seen as Jay (Conan Lee) finds himself at a festival where one of the performers goes off script. What comes next is truly unforgettable as Jay makes a monkey out of the “ugly stinking skunk fucker” and a kung fu fight ON STILTS breaks out…
