Ryan Shoots First: The Bad Batch (S1 Ep3) “Replacements”
The Bad Batch is back with Episode 3 of the series and off the heels of last week with Omega choosing to stay with the Batch. Tech is working on a scanner to help asses just how much risk there is with their inhibitor chips when the ship is pulled from hyperspace. The ship crash lands and while assessing the damage they all realize they miss Crosshair and start discussing if he was in control of his actions are not. We cut to the Imperial facility where Crosshair is back in the chamber that amplifies his chip. At this time Tarkin is talking to an Officer Rampart who says Crosshair will be in charge of the first Elite Squad.
While repairing the ship Echo hears a noise and begins exploring what appears to be hatched eggs around the ship. One of the animals takes the capacitor they just replaced meaning the ship isn’t fixed. They head out to try and get the part and Wrecker is complaining about a hurt head. Tarkin and the Kaminoans are still squabbling about if Clones or Enlisted troops are more efficient so Tarkin sends the Elite Squad out for Saw Guerrera. The troops are not crazy about following a Clone but Crosshair isn’t too worried about it. The squad launches their attack while Hunter and Omega find the part but in the process Hunter has his mask knocked off and passes out. Omega decides this is her time to shine and goes into the nest to get the part. Back at the Base Crosshair takes out the troops and decides to execute the civilians. One of the troopers stands up to him and Crosshair shoots him down then orders the remaining squad to finish the mission as they slaughter the civilians.
Hunter wakes up and realizes Omega has gone into the nest, while she is in there with the monster she learns they really just don’t like the light so Omega uses that to distract the animal and gets out to the surprise of Hunter. As Crosshair brings back his squad he reports to Tarkin who decides Clones take a lot of money so he promotes Rampart to Admiral and lets him start recruiting. The cloners, sensing they are losing the battle decide to explore phase 2 and sense Jango Fett’s clone DNA is deteriorating they will need a new host. At the Barracks Crosshair and his squad come in and Crosshair seems to look around and miss his brothers. Back on the ship Wrecker surprises Omega with her own room in the ship and he even gave her his prized doll Lula. The show even fades out with Hunter telling Omega she is part of this squad now too.
Really drastic changes from wholesome family to Crosshair slaughtering innocent refugees but props to the show for going there. I was wondering if they were going to explore a redemption angle for Crosshair or just keep him as the Big Bad but it does look like with a few hints he can be redeemed. Tune in next week for a very special episode of The Bad Batch filmed in front of a live studio audience (it’s like TGIF is back).
Observations
- So that’s what Gonk droids are for!
- Love Wrecker
- That dude List could not be more British.
- The Blade Runner music with Crosshair is sick
- Top soldiers in Bad Ass armor.
- I love you Dave but the ship crashing and dealing with local wildlife is becoming a trope.
- Also Echo is smart enough NOT to look into the eggs.
- No… no don’t do it… don’t Order 66 Wrecker.
- You got this Omega! You aint no Mary Sue!
- Hmm, so who is the phase 2 clone host and is that who Omega is based from?
- This possible redemption arc for Crosshair is pretty dark.
- I knew it, I know the show was gonna wholesome again with Wrecker making Omega a bunk.
- Are they really just gonna gloss over the fact Wrecker gave Omega Lula?
