Ryan Shoots First: The Bad Batch (S3 Ep5) “The Return”
With Crosshair back in the fold the Batch adds another former comrade as they begin to search down Mount Tannis.
This week “The Return” means many things. Not only is it symbolic of Crosshair joining back up with the Batch but it’s a return to the very place where he made the fateful decision to take down that snooty-ass imperial. The greater story is of course the interaction between Hunter and Crosshair. It is where we left of last week and is what we most want to see. How will they react? Does Crosshair even want to make things right or just hop the first freighter out of town? Can Hunter ever trust Crosshair again?
The story plays this up and nothing will come easy as the two have so much in their past and both have gripes. Crosshair did choose the wrong side but Hunter and the boys did kind of abandon him and not really make much of an effort. Crosshair is going through a lot as he had given up but Omega in her special way dragged him straight out of the dumps and back into the Batch’s good graces.
This is all done against a backdrop of yet again another Monster of the Week mission but those are perfect for forcing two alphas to put their differences aside and talk it out. I know many were hoping a certain former Sith Apprentice that was in the trailer would be the person who was returning but I like how we dedicated an entire episode to this and even though there is still some meat on the bone to chew on throughout the season this is an important moment for two characters we are invested in deeply so it was nice to see them be the focus.
Observations
- Omega is back home!
